Final Project

Emily is a sweetheart to her parents. She will turn nine years old in a month. Her parents want to host a big birthday party for her. Her mother, Judy, has been planning this party for months, just to have Emily be happy and enjoy her birthday with all her friends. She booked a pony ride, a clown, face painting, a petting zoo, and  some other activities for Emily’s birthday party. Judy sent out the invitations to Emily’s friends, classmates, and neighbors. It will be the biggest party Emily has ever had.

Birthday party

The days before Emily’s party, are the busiest for Judy, while she tries to get everything done in time for Emily’s party on May 20th. She orders Emily’s favorite birthday cake from the famous bakery in town and purchases many balloons, goody bags, snacks, and drinks. Judy gets up extra early on Saturday to set up everything, although she is still tired from the last couple of days.

At two o’clock, Emily’s friends start to come. The house gets more and more crowded. The girls are so happy they could play together on the weekend. The house fills with the girls’ loud voices, laughing and screaming. Judy is so glad the weather is good today, since many of the activities are hosted outdoors. The activities that Judy booked for her daughter’s party were coming soon. The pony ride and the petting zoo came, but the clown/face painting aren’t there yet. She knows all the girls liked clown performances and face painting, so she starts to get worried. While she is thinking, her cell phone rings. It is from the clown; he tells Judy that he is stuck in traffic and should be at her house within ten minutes. Judy is relieved after receiving the phone call. The party was going well at the beginning.

However, hours past and the party is getting more and more crazy. Emily’s dad has drank too much and is now dancing with the kids. On the other hand, Judy is so busy talking to the other ladies in the backyard that she totally forgets to check inside the house. When she walks in to check on everyone inside, the house she saw was:

She was so shocked to see the kids dance like crazy with her husband.

She was so mad at her husband and tried to control the situation, so she turned off the music and asked all the kids to go outside and take pictures with the clown.

Since the horse eats Emily’s expensive birthday cake, Judy sent her husband out to the local grocery store to pick up another cake.

When Emily’s dad came back with a cake, everyone came into the house and sing the birthday song and the Clown arrived said happy birthday to Emily too.

Everything went wrong after the birthday cake was eaten by the horse. Judy tried to keep cool and control the party, so she asked the kids go outside to take pictures with the Clown.

The kids started to ride on the pony and some other kids played with the farm animals.

When everyone was so busy play in the backyard, no one really payed attention to the Clown. When it was time for blowing out the the candles and eating cake, Emily was not found anywhere. Judy and her husband freaked out and everyone started to look for Emily, but they couldn’t find her. After a while, everyone realized the Clown was gone, too. Judy picked up the phone and called the police right way. The police officers came to the house within 15 minutes. Emily’s parents described information about Emily and the Clown and the police officers issued an amber alert. The police officers also called the Clown’s company and found out the company sent a female clown to Emily’s party, not a male clown. The company didn’t even know who the person was that came to Emily’s party. Judy and her friends send out a Twitter message to look for Emily and the Clown. Also, the police department sent out wanted posters to look for the Clown. (Wanted, Emily’s pic)

An hour after the Twitter message was sent out, thousands of people retweeted the message. The 911 center started receiving phone calls from people and provided useful information to the police department. Many people told the 911 center that they saw the Clown driving on I 95 towards Richmond. The police officers shut down I 95 and blocked all the exits on I 95. Finally, they caught the Clown and Emily was also found in the back trunk of the car. The police officers arrested the Clown and saved Emily. Judy and her husband were so happy to see Emily come home with no harm. From now on, they won’t host any big parties. They discovered that family being together and being happy is more important than anything else.

Show Case

For this week’s showcase, the best five works will be picked throughout the semester since only a few people are putting their work out during the holiday week.

1. Gun Commercial

This commercial was so funny and it made me laugh every time I listened to it. It was a great commercial for the radio show.

2. Movie MashUp

I really liked this Movie Mashup – show me the Wolf of Wall Street created by Aaron. I thought it was a good idea to mash up Jerry Maguire and the Wolf of Wall Street movies together to make a clip.

3.That’s so Ravens

This project was made by the Professor Bond. Even though I don’t watch football, I liked how all the different backgrounds changed while the football player was running. I also liked the music that was used in this project.

4.Video Essay – Bride of Frankenstein

Several students did analysis on the Video Essay – Bride of Frankenstein, but I thought Scott’s video analysis was the best among them. He focused on the scene and the angles of the camera and pointed out the special effects in the clip.

Comic Strip

I thought this tutorial idea was great. I  have never done a comic strip by using the online software, The comic strip software has unique formats to display brief humor or form a narrative with simple texts.

Progress on the Final Show Time

Progress on the Final Show Time

I had exactly no clue about what the final project would be like when I first read the Week 13 assignment. Then, I did some research on the ds 106’s website and found some examples of the final project. I got ideas of how to finish my final project. I will write a story about a little girl, Emily. She has her nine years old birthday party. My character, the Clown, will show up at her birthday party. The story will begin with Emily’s Mom wanting to host a big party for Emily. She sends out an invitation to Emily’s friends and booked some fun activities for the party. A variety of activities will be offered such as The Clown, pony rides and face painting. The Clown kidnaps Emily. Emily’s neighbors and friends send out a warning post (on Twitter) looking for the Clown. The following assignments would be created and used in the story.

 Birthday party invitation card: (visual design)
 Party Music (Audio)
 Fun Party (Video Mashup/Remix)
 Picture of the Clown with all these kids (GIF)
 Post the Poster on Tweeter (visual design)
Please feel free to comment on my ideas and some suggestions are welcome.

The Banana is Climbing the Stairs

When I saw the Moving Object assignment, I wanted to try it. However, the demo video was not a really good example, so I decided to try it on my own. This was my first time using Vine to create a video. I downloaded the App to my IPhone and followed the instructions on learning how to use the app. I practiced a couple of times and understood the idea of how to use it. I thought for the Moving Object assignment that it would be a great idea to use a non-moving object and recorded it moving to different locations. So I picked a banana as the object and thought climbing the stairs was a cool idea. So I placed the banana on the floor, the first stair, the second stair, etc……and recorded it. I was pretty happy about what I did.

Character Description

I choose this four-star assignment since it related to my character in the radio show, The Clown. I picked the movie Pennywise the Clown since the clown is in the movie. It was a creepy movie that scary a lot of people. This assignment was hard since I have no clue how to do it. So I did a lot or research and learned how to download a YouTube video to my computer. I download the MPEG Streamclip to do the assignment, but somehow the MPEG was not working. So I did research again and found out to add “ss” in from out YouTube link, and you can save the video to your computer. Then I upload the video to My Channel on YouTube, then use Trim tool to trip the video to many small clips and save on my computer. But, I don’t know how to combine all these short clips together. So I decided to give Microsoft Movie Maker a try. I succeeded. I used Microsoft Movie Maker to upload the small clips and then save out to my computer.

Radio Shows

I listened to the Smooth & spooky Variety show on Tuesday night. They had a great show and mainly talked about zombies and survival tips for a zombie apocalypse. I was amazed of how many tips they provided for surviving a zombie apocalypse. I really liked their gun commercial because it sounded very funny and blended in well with their radio show theme. Their weather clip was a nice addition to the show with the background’s wind sound working very nicely together. Also, their voices were pretty clear. Overall, it was a great radio show.

TXT Gift

This assignment requires writing two contradicting thoughts by using the animation, Gif. Since we just finished the group radio show, I would like to use 2 critics’ hosts from our Edward Creepy Show, a good critic and a bad critic. First, I created these 2 worlds in Paint and saved it to my computer. Then, I open GIMP and went to File>Open as Layers to upload these two images. Then, resize the photo by using the Scale Tool to 640X350. Finally, save it by pressing File>Exports as Gif file and Loop forever to your computer. To play the animation gif, just open a Brower and drop. Overall, this is an easy assignment if you know how to use GIMP.
